We have recently placed four bird feeders in various locations in the woods surrounding the university. The seed feeders will hopefully attract hungry birds as the seasons change from autumn to winter and the natural food sources (insects, berries etc) disappear. We hope that among these hungry birds, we will find some of our “own” blue tit and great tit chicks from this year. We will also be setting up some mist nets with the hope of catching the hungry visitors. If we are successful in recapturing some of the newly fledged chicks, we can determine how old they are, where they were born and how far they have come to search for food. There will be plenty of opportunities for people to come along and assist later in the season!
